The Metroplex Research Consortium for Electronic Devices and Materials (MRCEDM), combines the research and development capabilities of The University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Christian University and The University of North Texas to assist companies that innovate and manufacture advanced technical components and systems. Formed in 1999 around an extensive equipment donation from Texas Instruments, MRCEDM enlist academic scientists, engineers, staff, students, and the combined research capabilities of the universities of the North Central Texas region to catalyze industrial innovation and competitiveness. One purpose of the Consortium is to provide basic and applied research to enhance innovation in technical areas such as electronics, telecommunications, and information industries. Another purpose is to provide a focus on device and material characterization, synthesis, modification, and photonic devices, system designs, and new material combinations for advanced electronics, information, and cognitive-engineering applications. MCREDM provides access to specialized expertise, unique laboratory facilities, advanced analytical tools, and pooled resources that a single company or university may not wish to acquire nor maintain on its own.
